What should we bring?
Our rates are based on the upgraded amenities and multiple inclusions offered with our accommodations so you can focus on relaxing and the beauty of the island and not packing a boat load of stuff that costs a fortune to bring with you.
We recommend you pack as you would for any vacation but include outdoor items that you may need for hikes, swims, fishing, kayaking, or other activities you might want to do. Personal items, too, of course. If you forget something, you can always buy it in our camp store, at Island Energies or one of the local stores on the island, such as McDonough's Market
Is it difficult to get to the island?
Many people contact us with concerns about how to actually get to the island, but getting here is part of the adventure! Just remember there are two airports and a ferry (sometimes two!) that run daily. If you're not sure what to do, we may be able to help eliminate some of the unknowns and hiccups. Feel free to contact us and we'd be more than happy to suggest various travel options based on our own experience.
What is really included?
We include several items that you might otherwise have to bring or source on your own. Most importantly, by offering these items to our guests, it reduces waste on the island. Our goal is to make it super easy to just show up and discover the island. Our thoughtfully considered luxury inclusions are:
What is there to do??
We asked the same question the first time we came to Beaver Island! We have since realized that there is SO MUCH to do, that it's impossible to do everything in one trip, and relax and recover from the daily grind.
The list is endless with events and activities, but let's start with:
What if I don't want to do anything?
Beaver Island is a place where you can come to get-away and be comfortable doing nothing but "being." We hope you take advantage of a slower pace and find time to unplug, relax, and recharge.
I have a health condition that requires electric at night. What do I do?
For any guests that require electric, we will supply portable camping generators. They are quiet and will not disturb other campers yet provide our guests with their needs. Our fee for using the generator is the cost to refill the gas only.
What is your reservation policy?
YUCK! We don't like policies, but we have to do what we have to do. So, we want to make things as easy as possible. That's why you can book your stay for almost any day you choose with only a two day minimum, except on special weekends. Just be sure to take note of special minimum dates when you're booking.
We're new to the island in 2019 and we really don't want you to pay too much upfront. But, we do have to secure the room and hope your deposit is enough of an incentive to come. So, we are only asking for 25% of your stay and we include a flexible cancellation policy.
Final Payment is due at check-in on the day of arrival.
What about transportation on the island?
We try to eliminate the mystery of island transportation during your stay by offering Add-Ons and
Transportation Packages. You can click this link to see them and they'll be available when you begin the checkout process
If you prefer to provide your own transportation, you can bring your vehicle over on the ferry. Unfortunately, we don't assist in ferry bookings and we don't rent cars. You're on your own there.
There are car rental agencies on the island if you'd prefer that over our shuttle. Give Duffy's Car Rental a call (231.448.3132) or Beaver Island Marina! We recommend you book a car VERY early as availability is limited.
Is this really camping?
Outdoor accommodations, Luxury Camping, Glamorous Camping, Canvas Camping, whatever you want to call it, YES! We just make sure you're comfortable doing it!
You'll wake up in nature and fall asleep to the stars. You can build a campfire, use your tent's charcoal grill, cook over an open fire or choose to cook in the kitchen at the pavilion. You can choose not to shower the entire stay or shower in one of four private, nicely furnished bath houses. You'll be surrounded by woods and nature but sleeping in a bed. You can disconnect or charge your phone and use wifi in the pavilion. And, you should know, there's no daily cleaning service.
Your stay is what you want to remember and enjoy. We just make sure you have the choices available to design your perfect experience.
Can I bring my own soap?
We are conscious of our clean water and unspoiled land which is why we include for our guests all-natural soaps; a 4-1 travel bar from Red Bud Suds and laundry soap from Moon Works. Of course, you may bring your own if you'd like. We also recycle and compost to provide an environmentally friendly experience. Additionally, we provide items in bulk, when available, to reduce as much waste as possible.
Are there dangerous animals on Beaver Island?
No, there are not. The most dangerous nature or wild "thing" on the island is poison ivy. You can expect to see some pretty cool creatures, but none of them are harmful.
What should we do if car rentals are sold-out?
If you have given Duffy's Car Rental a call (231.448.3132) or Beaver Island Marina and their sold-out, you can always check-out one of our transportation packages. Imagine...being chauffeured instead of driving!
What is a guest kitchen?
Our guest kitchen includes almost everything that you would need or have in your own home, including an electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, small appliances, commercial ice maker, double stainless steel sink, baking dishes, cooking dishes, towels, organic soap, scrubbers, and cooking utensils. If guests don't feel like using the propane burner or charcoal grill at the site, they can pop into the kitchen and whip something up to feed their gang!
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens! We understand and do our best to support changing needs of guests. That's why we take the same approach with our cancellations. Of the 25% deposit received, a cancellation will incur the following charges:
21 days or more prior to arrival - 100% refund
15 to 20 days prior to arrival - 50% refund
0 to 14 days prior to arrival - 0% refund
What is the occupancy of your tents?
Tents are designed to comfortably fit 2 adults in a queen size bed and 2 children in cots, although a 3rd cot can be added for a 3rd child. In effort to keep the atmosphere uncrowded and safe, we cannot allow more than 4 adults per tent and for no more than 1 week occupancy.
If you have a special request that does not meet our policy, please contact us to inquire.
